Being a computer science student myself, who has been studying Computational Visualistics, or the German term “Computervisualistik”, for several years now, I would like to introduce this field of study to everybody who is interested in it. Without any doubt, it’s the best field of study that exists… ;-)
What is it?
“Computational Visualistics” is a term of computer sciences including many research fields that generally work with images, including image-processing, computer vision, image-creation, visualization, user-interface-design, image analysis, rendering, simulation, mesh- and curve-processing and much more.
The term “Computational Visualistics” also refers to an interdisciplinary degree program taught at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg and the University Koblenz-Landau with degrees as Bachelor or Master.
What does studying “Computational Visualistics” mean?
Studying computational visualistics includes a robust study of general computer sciences, including common algorithms and data structures, foundations of technical and theoretical computer sciences and a solid base of mathematics, which is of course one of the most important things in computer sciences.
Besides that, a study of computational visualistics includes lectures in computer graphics, image processing, algorithmic geometry, computer aided geometric design, GPU programming, information visualization, user-interface design, mesh-processing and much more.
At the University of Magdeburg, students are to choose one of four specialization fields – medicine, image-information-studies, construction/design and material engineering. All of those fields include excellent lectures with dedicated professors and computer laboratories.
I want to know more!
If you are interested in this degree program please inform yourself on one of the websites below or write me a mail if you have any questions or if you are looking for experiences of students who are currently studying it or have already finished it. Computational visualistics is a very interesting study and I can clearly recommend it to anybody who is interested in those fields!

On this website I am going to share with you information about my work and my projects in this degree. Please check the projects section to see my projects. In the future I also plan to publish some guides that might help you on some basic image-processing or computer vision tasks. So please check by again! If you like my work, please also conside a small donation!
